Term 3 - Frida KaHlo & Spring flowers
Within this four week programme, we studied the art of Mexican artist, Frida Kahlo. In particular, we focused on her self-portraits and how she expressed her personality so vividly through her work. Inspired by this, the art students created their own self portrait using mixed media.
Changing topic, we relished the first signs of Spring life by creating still life images of daffodils and snow drops. Students developed their skills of pencil shading, drawing from perspective and using paint and colour to create tone and texture. The results were fabulous!

Term 2 - Christmas Themed Art Workshops.
During this six week programme, we focused on the skills and techniques involved in lino printing. The results were incredible and the results made fabulous Christmas cards and posters.
We also learnt how to needle felt. This is a very skilled artistic technique and the art group managed so well, creating beautiful Christmas baubles. These unique crafts, made ideal gifts but also wonderful keepsakes for years to come.
Finally, we used our favourite Christmas bird, the robin, as inspiration for our oil pastels lesson. As you can see below, we made very uniquely special Christmas cards for our friends and family.
It was a pleasure teaching this group of budding artists!

Week 6 - final session!
Excitedly, we made up our magic potion of glue and shaving foam to create an ice-cream like consistency to ice our ice-cream cones!
The last session gave everyone the opportunity to recap on all of their art work and to add the finishing touches to their favourite pieces.
We finished with a "walking museum" experience, giving everyone the opportunity to showcase their favourite work and to admire the work of others.
Well done to all participants!! You were a terrific bunch to work with and your artistic talents were admired greatly!

Week 4 &5- Wayne Thiebaud.
Week 4 was very intense as not only were we using construction materials to create our ice-cream cone structure, but we were beginning the process of using plaster of paris to create the paper máche finish.
Using strips of plaster, everyone skilfully covered their structures. These were left to dry and were finished during week 5.

Week 3 - Introduction to Wayne Thiebaud
Wayne Thiebaud was an American artist, involved in the Pop Art era. A lot of his work centres around cakes. He went around American towns, peering into bakery windows, taking snap-shots in this mind of the layout, composition, detail and structures of the cakes on display. His art, captures the deliciousness of the cakes, as though we are looking at the photo of a real cake.
We used Thiebaud's art as inspiration for our own cakes!
