Junior Einsteins Workshop
The Parents' Association organised a Junior Einsteins workshop for the children in St. Dominic's last Friday, 10th June. Lucretia, who works with the Junior Einsteins Science Club and also in NUI Galway gave the workshop. The children had a chance to observe and take part in science experiments across different strands of the curriculum and it was obvious from their reactions that all of the children thoroughly enjoyed the session. Many thanks to the Parents' Association for organising such a nice end-of-year treat.
Senior School Tour
3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th class had a great time on their school tour to Dublin on 24th May. They played bubble soccer and took part in an inflatable obstacle course in the morning and went on a 1916 tour of the city centre, which ended at Collins Barracks in the afternoon. The weather was fabulous and all of the children thoroughly enjoyed the day. Many thanks to Eamon Brennan, who was a fantastic tour guide.
Paired Reading
The paired reading programme began in St. Dominic's earlier this week. Children from 5th and 6th Class visit the children in Senior Infants each morning and spend some time reading with them. All of the children are thoroughly enjoying the programme.
Spikeball Returns
Spikeball sessions have begun again this year for 5th and 6th Class. Transition year students from Mercy Secondary School, Ballymahon are coming to the school every Tuesday for the next four weeks to teach the children the sport of spikeball. The children are really enjoying it. Here are some pictures from their second session.
SPAR FAI Primary Schools' Soccer Blitz
Boys and girls from 4th, 5th and 6th Class participated in the Spar FAI Primary Schools' soccer blitz in City Calling Stadium, in Longford, at the beginning of April. Well done to all the boys and girls who took part, and especially to the girls' team who won the Longford blitz, making it through to the finals in Navan. Unfortunately they lost out to another team on the day but they played very well and showed great sportsmanship. Well done girls!
Commemorating 1916
Proclamation Day was a day of great excitement for all at St. Dominic's NS. Children from 4th to 6th class read sections of the Irish Proclamation, at the front of the school. 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th classes also read their own proclamations, which they had written for present day Ireland. (Have a look at the 'Class Information' section of our website to hear the children read their proclamations) Below is a short video with pictures and clips from Proclamation Day on 15th March, and from Monday 11th January, when members of the Irish Army came to present us with our flag.
Santa Claus Comes to St. Dominic'sThere was great excitement on the day of the Christmas holidays in St. Dominic's when Santa Claus paid a visit to the school. He took time out of his busy schedule to talk to each and every one of the children and made sure to bring a little present for everyone. The Parents' Association held a Christmas raffle, which was a great success.
