ASW 2023 - Friday 26th May
What an end to ASW 2023! The sun shone down on all of our activities today and spirits were high throughout the school!
The 5th and 6th Class Lunchtime Soccer Tournament had a tense finish in a penalty shoot out! Congratulations to Team A who were our overall winners in the end! A huge well done to all of our other teams who played so well and displayed such sportsmanship throughout the week!
Our "Teachers versus Pupils" event was the draw of the day. There was great excitement after little break when all of the pupils headed out onto the pitch for the races. The pupils got the better of the teachers this year!
The week ended with a dance party in the yard! Everyone had a super week and got lots of movement in. A big thank you to all of the Active Schools committee members and playground leaders - we wouldn't have been able to run ASW without you! Looking forward to next year's ASW already!

ASW 2023 - Monday 22nd May
We had a great start to our Active Schools Week today! The weather was beautiful, which meant that we got to do all of the activities we had planned outside.
Junior and Senior Infants and 1st Class all did the Active Walkway, helped along by our committee and playground leaders Natan, Aaron, Lily May, Éabha and Andrew. Ms Mulloolly's class also used the walkway to complete a maths quiz.
Ms Lennon's 3rd and 4th class took part in obstacle course races, set up and run by Lily May, Dominic and Stephen from 5th Class.
We rebooted our "Active Everyday Challenge" and different classes made sure to take an active break during the day, whether it be dancing, running or exercise!
Finally, the 5th and 6th class lunch time soccer tournament kicked off today to great excitement. It was a competitive game, but great sportsmanship was shown throughout!
We're really looking forward to tomorrow when we have more Walkway activities, the second round of the soccer tournament, a trip to the playground and a dance lesson with 2nd class!

The challenge will continue to run for the next three weeks, but already we can see improvements in our fitness and the distances we are covering. Below are just a few photos from the challenge. Keep an eye on this post for more photos and videos of the challenge.
Well done to 6th class, who between them managed to clock up 160.4km in the 'Tour of Europe Challenge' this week.

Two of our parents, Amanda and Jenny, kindly offered their time to carry out circuit training and an obstacle course with the different classes. It was a great opportunity to try out some of the new PE equipment. The children enjoyed it so much that we are hoping to organise a longer session before the end of the year. Thanks to Amanda and Jenny for their help with Active Week. Below are some photos from a few of the different sessions.

Swim for a Mile (Wednesday, 8th May, 2019)
3rd and 4th classes attempted the "Swim for a Mile" challenge yesterday, as part of Active Week. Even though everyone has a different swimming ability level, all of the children took part and did their best. Everyone received new swimming hats from Healthy Ireland. Well done to all involved.
Tuesday's Obstacle Course and Dance Party in the Classroom...
The pupils in 6th class designed, created and ran an obstacle course for Junior Infants - 4th Class. They explained how to complete the obstacle course and even demonstrated the different activities along the way. All of the classes loved it! Unfortunately the weather let us down and 5th and 6th class didn't get to complete it, but that didn't stop us! We had an impromptu dance party in the classroom! :-)
