Little Fitness with Longford Fitness - Friday, 10th May
Enda and Catherine, from Longford Fitness came to our school today to run a 'Little Fitness' workshop with us. All of the classes were put through their paces for an hour, getting active and playing lots of fun games! The competitive streak was shining through, particularly in the senior classes!
Tour of Europe Running Challenge
We have been running the 'Tour of Europe Challenge' all week this week as part of Active Week. It has been a great success. The challenge will continue to run for the next three weeks, but already we can see improvements in our fitness and the distances we are covering. Below are just a few photos from the challenge. Keep an eye on this post for more photos and videos of the challenge.
Well done to 6th class, who between them managed to clock up 160.4km in the 'Tour of Europe Challenge' this week.
Active Week = Active Homework
As we are currently running Active Week in our school the focus has moved from written homework to active homework for this week. All of the children are taking part in 'Super Troopers'. Each evening they attempt a different activity for their homework and record it in their Super Troopers journal. For more information on Super Troopers click here.

Obstacle course and circuits - Thursday, 9th May, 2019
Two of our parents, Amanda and Jenny, kindly offered their time to carry out circuit training and an obstacle course with the different classes. It was a great opportunity to try out some of the new PE equipment. The children enjoyed it so much that we are hoping to organise a longer session before the end of the year. Thanks to Amanda and Jenny for their help with Active Week. Below are some photos from a few of the different sessions.
Wednesday's Skipathon for the irish heart foundation
The school took part in the Irish Heart Foundation's Skipping Campaign on Wednesday, 9th May. The weather let us down unfortunately so we didn't get to do it outside but we moved the desks back and got skipping in the classroom! :-) Everyone had great fun and gave it a go. Remember there is still time to donate by bringing a donation into your class teacher or by donating online. Well done to all! :-)
Swim for a Mile - Wednesday, 8th May, 2019
3rd and 4th classes attempted the "Swim for a Mile" challenge yesterday, as part of Active Week. Even though everyone has a different swimming ability level, all of the children took part and did their best. Everyone received new swimming hats from Healthy Ireland. Well done to all involved.
Tuesday's obstacle course and dance party in the classroom...
The pupils in 6th class designed, created and ran an obstacle course for Junior Infants - 4th Class. They explained how to complete the obstacle course and even demonstrated the different activities along the way. All of the classes loved it! Unfortunately the weather let us down and 5th and 6th class didn't get to complete it, but that didn't stop us! We had an impromptu dance party in the classroom! :-)
Launch of the "Tour of Europe" Running Initiative - Tuesday, 7th May, 2019
On Tuesday, 7th May, 2019 we launched our "Tour of Europe" running challenge as part of our Active Week. Each morning, each class will take it in turns to run, walk, hop of skip laps of the basketball court. Each lap will represent 1km. The challenge is to 'visit' as many European landmarks as possible over a four week period. We can't wait to see how far we get! :-)

Eamon and Tom from the Fyffes Fit Squad visited the school on Friday 3rd May. They did a 40 minute session with the children and really put them through their paces! The children heard the message that physical fitness and healthy eating go hand-in-hand. Well done to all the children involved and what a great way to kick start our Active Schools Week!
